Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS’s) are a convenient, easy-to-follow way of describing the preventative safety actions to be taken while working. SWMS’s are required by law for high-risk work. Even if they are not, they are a good way of recording the information gained from Risk Management and from WH&S Consultation. SWMS’s are mandatory for many federal or state government contracts, they are also required when working for major contractors.
We can assist in the writing of SWMS’s in plain English ensuring the organisation remains both productive and legally compliant. SWMS’s can become an integral part of your company’s WH&S Management System (WHSMS). They are proof positive that your organisation has been through the steps of risk assessment, risk management and WH&S consultation.
The WH&S Act and the WH&S regulations require employers and employees to identify and discover the hazards in the workplace, decide how important they are by assessing the risk and then effectively managing those hazards by either eliminating or controlling the hazard to ensure a healthy and safe workplace. They can form part of a legal defence against WH&S prosecutions.
